Several key organizations in Fort Madison including the City of Fort Madison, Fort Madison Partners, Fort Madison Tourism, Fort Madison Area Arts Association Art Center, and Lee County Economic Development Group came together in 2024 to organize the communitywide strategic planning effort for Fort Madison: Find Your Fort Madison. The process engaged a broad planning team and included gathering input and ideas from the public through a community questionnaire, targeted small group interviews, and a public input event. Planning Team members planned and promoted the online questionnaire, served as hosts and listeners at the public input event, and recruited the small group interview attendees. They brought a wide range of experiences, community involvement, and areas of expertise to the planning process. Through the input process, community members offered critical insights that helped planning team members understand the challenges, needs, and desires of all types of community members. The planning team held several planning sessions to discuss what they learned from the public and to develop the following priorities, goals, and strategies for community partners to engage in over the coming years. Input that fell outside the scope of this final plan was passed on to appropriate organizations for consideration.
