Fort Madison is geographically centered between I-80, I-35, I-55, and I-70. Fort Madison, Lee County and the State of Iowa have invested a great deal of money developing the transportation system we have today.
Fort Madison is intersected by 4-lane US Highway 61 going east and west through the entire length of the city connecting to US Highway 218/27 "Avenue of the Saints" and US Highway 34. The Avenue of Saints will stretch north and south from St. Paul, Minnesota to St. Louis, Missouri dissecting Lee County. The 4-laned US Highway 34 runs east and west across Southeast Iowa connecting to US Highway 63 in Ottumwa and I-74 in Galesburg, Illinois. The Avenue of Saints connects Interstate 35 at Mason City, Iowa, passing through Cedar Falls/Waterloo, dissecting Interstate 80 at Iowa City.
