Fort Madison Main Street is sponsoring their popular event, Steppin’ Up for Main Street on November 5, 2011 from 11am – 4pm. “Steppin’ Up” is a private tour of four homes located above the first floor shops and businesses in the Main Street district. This is an opportunity for the public to tour these beautiful homes which now feature unique and historic characteristics while implementing modern amenities. The homes in this year’s tour include 602 7th Street, 723 Avenue G, and 814 Avenue F. As an added bonus, the co-owner of the renowned and beloved Ivy Bake Shoppe has opened up her home (616 ½ 7thStreet) for this tour as well. Originally, some of these spaces were not designed for residential living, thus creating some interesting design challenges. The adaptive re-use of the upper floor spaces has proven to be successful and now offers attractive and affordable options for those who want to call historic downtown “home.” Other homes on the tour were once Victorian homes and mansions, and are still iced with the flair of the Victorian era. Take this rare opportunity to explore these homes and meet with the owners and residents as they explain how they renovated their spaces. One home even has a built-in mp3 player in the shower! Main Street will also have information on special financial incentives available to those interested in renovating upper-story units in historic downtowns.
Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 at the door (Ivy Bake Shoppe at 7th & Ave G). You can purchase tickets online (by clicking the button above) or at ticket locations in Fort Madison include: HyVee, County Market, public library, the Ivy Bake Shoppe, and Fort Madison Main Street. Tickets are also available at The Medium in Burlington. The day of the event, you may also purchase tickets at the River Rat Restaurant, Antiques & Collectibles at 723 Avenue G in Fort Madison. If you purchase your tickets online, you may pick up your tickets on Saturday, Nov 5th, as early as 11am at the The River Rat Restaurant, Antiques & Collectibles at 723 Avenue G.
Each ticket purchase includes $5 off of lunch at downtown participating restaurants including:
